The Champion – Meryl Streep

The Champion - Meryl Streep

“Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character” – T. Alan Armstrong
I was delighted when Meryl Streep got the Oscar for Best Actor for the film ‘Iron Lady’ for 2012. She won against some tough competition which included the likes of Glen Close, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams and Rooney Mara. Her third win put her in a category with other three-time Oscar winners Jack Nicholson, Walter Brennan and Ingrid Bergman. Only Katharine Hepburn with four wins had more.
I have always admired Meryl Streep as an outstanding actress and my all time favourite role of hers is from that brilliant film – The Bridges of Madison County – 1995 American romantic drama film based on on the bestselling novel of the same name by Robert James Waller
The above quote sums it all up. No one can become a champion overnight and though she may have underplayed her emotions by these words “”When they called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America going, ‘Oh no … her again”, I can say she is truly a champion and will remain one.
